Electro Harmonix Small Stone

Electro Harmonix’s Small Stone phaser has seen many revisions over the years but has mainly been based around the same design utilizing a Rate knob and a Color switch. It’s a simple pedal but has a great tone. Our modifications are designed to make the pedal have more sounds available and also to make it work well on a pedalboard for gigging musicians.

If you have an older Small Stone then you may experience signal drain which can be remedied by our True Bypass modification. True bypass will improve your bypassed tone and prevent some of the high end signal bleed that is present in these pedals.

The absolute most popular request for these pedals is to boost the phaser’s volume to the same level as the bypassed volume. Most volume adjustments made on the Small Stone increases the gain at the input of the pedal at the sacrifice of some headroom. Our Volume Boost Circuit is installed at the output which increases the overall volume and helps the pedal drive the rest of your chain. This is the same modification that we offer for other pedals like the Deluxe Electric Mistress. The volume booster is set to increase the output to unity gain so the pedal is the same volume as your bypassed signal.

The Color switch controls two functions: it increases both the feedback and the depth of the phaser. Our Feedback knob modification removes the feedback function from the Color switch (making it essentially a Depth switch) and installs a knob to control the feedback level of the phaser. This adds more options than before by giving you a fine control of the feedback while being able to adjust the Depth independently.

A phase shifter consists of mixing a phased signal with the dry guitar signal. Our Mix knob allows you to go from a dry guitar tone to a completely wet, vibrato-like effect. When at the halfway point you’re back to the stock sound. When installing the Mix knob we also install a Volume knob which allows you to fine tune the volume as you adjust the mix of wet and dry signal. The Mix control is less effective when the Feedback control is turned up (or in Color mode on a stock Small Stone); Check out the video below to hear these controls in action.

Our Pulsing LED mod was so popular with the MXR Phase 90 that we’ve decided to adapt it to work with the Small Stone as well. This modification converts your status LED to pulse to the rate of the phaser when the pedal is activated. When the pedal is bypassed the LED turns off. This modification only applies to pedals that already have an LED installed.

We offer two Overhaul modifications which bundle our most popular modifications at a discounted rate. These apply to all full-size Small Stone pedals.

Our Standard Overhaul includes: true bypass w/LED (add $10 for vintage models without an LED), volume boost circuit, Feedback knob, and a “Boss style” DC jack.
Our Deluxe Overhaul includes: true bypass w/pulsing LED (add $10 for vintage models without an LED), volume boost circuit, Mix, Volume, and Feedback knobs, “Boss style” DC jack, and reduce LFO ticking (only applicable for early units).
