True Bypass Mods:
There are two kinds of bypasses, mechanical and electronic. Mechanical bypass means the signal is routed physically through a
switch so no voltage is needed to hear the signal when bypassed. Electronic bypass means the signal is routed through a special
switching circuit and the signal only passes if voltage is plugged into the pedal. Mechanical bypass is found on most wahs,
Electro Harmonix, MXR pedals, etc. Electronic bypass is on most current Boss, DOD, Ibanez, Danelectro pedals, etc. The reissue MXR pedals have PCB mounted switches which means it must be cut out and replaced. A reissue Phase 90 with true bypass is posted above.
We currently have a new method for performing True Bypass on pedals with electronic bypass. In the past True Bypass mods on pedals from brands such as Boss involved drilling a large hole and mounting a large switch on top of the pedal. This led to broken wires, loss of battery compartment, possible noise issues, etc. Our new method involves installing a relay inside for a quick and non-invasive mod which can be performed to almost any pedal.
