The Boss GE-7 has been the most popular equalizer pedal that we’ve seen in here due to its compact size and relatively low price. After some modifications it becomes a great pedal. However, the MXR Equalizer is a better option for those who can give up a bit more room on their board and have access to an 18V power supply. A few benefits of the MXR over the Boss include higher headroom due to the higher voltage power supply, easily converted to true bypass, more frequency bands, a gain control, and the circuit board design allows the use of better quality op-amps.
Our Overhaul modification takes the circuit and replaces all necessary components to get the absolute best quality sound. All four chips are replaced (a total of 16 channels) with the highest quality Burr-Brown ICs. Key audio capacitors are replaced with film capacitors or audio grade electrolytic where necessary. The capacitors which set the equalizer frequencies are also replaced with tighter tolerances to give the lowest noise and most accurate performance possible.
