The MXR Dyna Comp is one of the most popular compressors designed used by guitarists and the circuit has remained mostly unchanged for decades. Our modifications for the pedal are great for musicians that love the squashed tone of the pedal but want a bit more flexibility from it.
The Dyna Comp has a very distinct tone based around a strong mid-range. Our Overhaul Mod changes key capacitors to add some highs and lows. As part of the Overhaul Mod we also install a Decay Knob which allows you to dial in how quickly the gain reduction effect tapers off. The added control gives you the option to dial in a faster or slower decay rate than when in the pedal’s stock form.
Our Blend Knob installs a knob to mix in your clean signal with the effected signal. Blend knobs can be helpful to make the effect less intense and to mix in the original guitar’s tone. This modification requires installing additional circuitry in the battery compartment (no more 9V battery option) with the blend knob mounted on the side of the pedal.
The Dying Battery Mod is a small trimpot installed inside the pedal on the circuit board to sag the voltage. This emulates a dying battery which can sound better in pedals like a compressor and is similar to the Sag feature found on the Voodoo Lab Pedal Power. This trimpot will decrease the voltage to the audio circuit but will not dim the LED like when using the Sag feature in the Pedal Power.
