The Boss DF-2 Super Feedbacker & Distortion (sometimes labeled the Super Distortion & Feedbacker) is a distortion pedal with a built in “feedback” function. The feedback is an overtone created by sampling your guitar when you hold down the footswitch. This is such an oddball pedal with a classic distortion sound that we’ve decided to spend some time and update our Overhaul mods.
Our Standard Overhaul modification is for everyone that wants the stock distortion tone but more variety on the feedback effect. We install a 3-way feedback switch to go from the stock vibrato feedback tone, to a tone that does not have the vibrato effect, to an absolutely over the top “Siren” effect. In addition to these sounds (as demonstrated in the video at the bottom of this page), we also update the pedal to run on a standard, modern 9V power supply and not the vintage 12V “ACA” adapter that Boss used in the 1980s. The main power capacitor is also replaced to be safe.
The Deluxe Overhaul modification includes everything in the standard overhaul mod but goes one step further and installs a second toggle switch add the ability to remove the distortion circuit from your guitar’s signal so that it only effects the Feedback part of the pedal. In this mode, the pedal becomes only a Feedback pedal and your guitar’s signal will pass through the pedal unchanged while the feedback effect is layered on top. The Level, Tone, Gain, and Overtone knobs all will only effect the feedback and leave the guitar unchanged. When you depress the footswitch the overtone is generated until you release the footswitch. In order to squeeze two toggle switches into the front face we replace all of the potentiometers. This process also expands the range of the Gain knob and adds significantly more gain on tap.
